L'écrivaine Ayanna Black, dont l'un des grands receuils de poésie, "Invoking the Spirits", a été publié aux Editions du Marais, s'est éteinte à son domicile le 21 juillet dernier, des suites d'une longue maladie.
Ayanna Black était l'une des pionnières parmi les poètes Noires du Canada. Elle s'était notamment impliquée dans le mouvement féministe pendant plus de vingt ans, et fut l'un des membres fondateurs du Tiger Lily Journal, le premier magazine Canadien pour les femmes de couleur.
Des hommages nombreux ont été rendus à la suite de sa disparition ; nous vous livrons celui rendu par la Directrice des Editions du Marais, Natania Etienne :

She was a poet, on her journey in this life she had a heart as big as the world. How can I thank her for her humanity and what she did for others but especially for GERARD ETIENNE z'l' and I when everybody else had turned their back. And then she was there for us after. She leaves behind her writings and the anthologies she had put together she was one of the few who wanted space for everybody. For Ayanna you could be Black Jewish German French whatever you were not a stranger
